Why Lindbergh was there: " It was a foggy Friday
evening in June and a lone pilot was flying low over the Susquehanna
River. Between the fog in the mountainous terrain and the approaching
darkness, he knew he wouldn’t make his destination of New York
city. He would have to put the plane down. Somewhere. Col. Charles A.
Lindbergh had picked up the Susquehanna River about 45 miles north of
Pittston and was using it as a guide."
