Miscellaneous and Unidentified People

The photos presented on these page were rescued from a New Jersey garage sale. Thank you Carla for not splitting them up. The whole collection is available at the Scranton Albright Library. Dates, unless they were printed on the back of a picture, are from Census and other documents found using familysearch.org. The information is provided to help you with your research. It's accuracy is not guaranteed (I've seen mistakes in the census as I did this research). I have no additional information - these are not my ancestors.

Milo Hastings Finn (son of John and Irene) and Children

Miranda Adelaide Depew Finn.
Milo Hastings Finn, son of John and Irene. On The Back it states he died in 1918. In the 1900 Census Irene was living with them. Records show her as Miranda, Miranda A., Adelaide, and Adda. The Back says she died Nov. 13, 1908 - age 44.
The Back says, "Aunt Olive Depew Penwarden." The Back says, "Uncle Wm Penwarden."

The Back of the picture above says, " Alfred J. Finn. 1855 - 1913"
Above left: The Back says, "Papa, Mama, Bert, Alfred, 'Me'". Bert would be Bertha, "Me" would then be Hattie Ruth, born September 6, 1891, and Alfred was born in February, 1884. Missing is Walter L, the eldest child. It makes sense that Hattie wrote the descriptions of "Mother," "Uncle," on the backs of the pictures.

The adults in the picture at the left are obviously Milo and Miranda Adelaide Finn. The children are probably Alfred, Hattie and Bertha.
Above is a large picture of a home with Milo Finn and family in the yard. The Back was repaired by attaching an ad for life insurance. The ad was sent to J. B. T. Jones at Hudson Coal, Scranton. A box was completed for Mr. Jones with an address in Forty Fort, Pa. Hattie married a Jones, but the  1920 Census and 1930 Census do not show a child with those initials.

Right: Geo. Tuttle, Alfred (son of Milo), M.H.F. (Milo). The Back says, "In front of store at 1298 Diamond Ave., Scranton." Obviously a meat market. On page 152 of the 1893-94 Business Directory the listing under Scranton Meat Markets says, "Finn, M. H. Wood, Corner of Diamond Ave."

Both articles are from the Scranton Tribune. The one at the left is from February 21, 1900, and the one above is from April 28, 1894. With the correct search terms, more might be found at the Library of Congress site.
Milo Finn. The Back says "Camp Alger July 6, 1898." Alfred Finn, The Back has the same date as his father's.

Above: The Back says, "Alfred [back right] when he attended Keystone Academy. 4 friends."

Left: Alfred J. Finn, but not labeled.

Not shown, two unlabeled photos of Alfred.: Photo One; Photo Two, (taken in Philadelphia).

Above: The Back says, "My brother Alfred while in Crozer Sem." Also included in the scan of the back is a calling card for Alfred J. Finn, Crozer Theological Seminary, Chester, Pa.

Right: the inside of a 1901 copy of the New Testament that belonged to Alfred. There are notations by his sister Harriett (Hattie on all pictures). She wrote that he died October 11, 1913. I can not make out the cemetery name.
Left: the top part of a church program for the First Baptist Church, Mullica Hill, New Jersey. The note says Alfred was the paster there from 1911 to 1913 when he died.
The Back of the left one says Hattie Ruth Finn.

The Back of the picture above says, "Hattie Finn (about 7)

Right: Not labeled, but this looks like Hattie on a riding toy.

The two bibles that originally belonged to Alfred also have the Harriett Finn Jones written in them. One is shown above. The second contained the name as Harriett Finn Jones on one page, and a second page says Mrs. Ross G Jones, Clarks Green. The 1920 Census and 1930 Census show a Harriet R Jones [one 't' in Harriet) of the right age married to Ross G Jones living in Clarks Green.
