Charles Henry Silkman (1809-1877) was a lawyer in Providence, PA. Chester Tuttle was the publisher of the Luzerne Democrat, in Wilkes-Barre, in 1845. In the letter Silkman Silkman expresses frustration at efforts to block Hyde Park from forming a new county. In the second letter he mentions Merrifield. His first wife was Lucilla S. Tripp, mentioned on this page. He is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery. For more on Hyde Park history, see this site.

| Letter gives a detailed explanation of a new farming operation - how the barns and other infrastructure will be built, raising taxes to pay the road and school taxes, grain that will be grown, etc. Not dated except for Apr. 2, but the mid-1840's based on postage on address portion. | |
