The following are names of those persons who were from, were formerly from, or who had family from, Lackawanna County who lost their lives while in the Armed Forces of The United States during World War II. This list was partially transcribed from an article in The Scranton Times, Published on Monday, May 7, 1945, pages 14 and 15, to celebrate VE Day. The article did not publish the dates of death. The dates in the article were the dates the deaths were reported in the newspaper. Each person was checked against the newspaper articles of deaths published each day in the papers. When the date of death was not given, they were checked against another source, generally military headstone applications, or World War II compensation applications. While other deaths of area soldiers were listed each day, this database is restricted to those having ties to Lackawanna County. While extensive, it is not complete, as the confirmation of deaths took place for some time after of those missing in action.
